Petanque, a local passion!
As the sun begins to set over the Baronnies hills, a familiar sound echoes from village squares: the clink of pétanque balls. Here in the southern Drôme, pétanque is an institution and THE regional sport. It’s a time for sharing, a meeting between generations, between locals and holidaymakers, and our very own way of taking time out in the shade of the plane trees.
In Buis-les-Baronnies, the playground is everywhere
On the Place des Platanes, it’s not uncommon to come across enthusiasts in the middle of a game. Holidaymakers at the Cloître des Dominicains are invited to join the locals for a friendly game. And if you’ve never played before? Don’t worry, we’ll explain it to you with a smile!
Regional sports tournaments all summer long
In summer, pétanque is also organized into friendly competitions and tournaments that attract amateurs and initiates alike. Here are a few not-to-be-missed events around Buis-les-Baronnies:
6th National du Tilleul mixed doubles at Buis-les-Baronnies
- Book your weekend of June 14/15, 2025 and meet us at Allée des Platanes!
- Registration is now closed as the tournament is fully booked.
- Atmosphere guaranteed! Come and support the 256 registered teams!
26th edition of the “8 jours de la pétanque” in Nyons
- Join in or just support the teams competing for 4 national titles from September 26 to October 5, 2025.
- Higher level, but spectators welcome!

A family competition in Beauvoisin!
